The Perfect Vintage Denim Shorts
Finding the perfect vintage Levi’s shorts are almost a right of passage. It took me a while to find a pair that were perfectly worn in but still had a lot of life left in them. Over the years, I’ve added several to my collection usually finding them at the flea or thrift store. This was my first pair and they are my favorite mostly because they are oversized and are the most comfortable thing to wear besides pajamas.
Finding the perfect pair of vintage Levi’s isn’t hard, so here are my 4 tips:
- Don’t be afraid to chop after you shop. I have found great long length Levi’s which I cut into shorts. The most important things are fit and wash. Find a pair that fits you well and has a great wash and you can transform them from tapered jeans to shorts in less than 20 minutes.
- Get old school. Authentic vintage Levi’s jeans are those manufactured before 1970. You can easily verify the true vintage of the jeans with this easy trick: find the red tab and check for a capital “E” in LEVi’s.
- Menwear on fleek. Don’t ignore men’s jeans while on the hunt for your perfect vintage Levi’s. Again, fit and wash are most important so venture beyond the women’s jeans and find something from the boys. These jeans were men’s jeans I cut in shorts and then sewed the fold.
- Mom jeans vs dad wear. If you’re looking for high-waist jeans then shop women’s, but if you want loose and casual then shop men’s jeans. I know it’s a no brainer, but I get this question a lot so I figured I would add this in as a tip to help future shoppers!
