I’m so excited to feature a new series on my blog called the Thrill of the Thrift. As you can imagine, it’s about sharing secret vintage shops, favorite finds, and the thrill of the thrift! I’ll be following some of my favorite stylists, designers, and bloggers around town finding the best vintage and thrift shops.
Meet Dee Murphy, blogger and interior designer behind Murphy Deesign. Dee’s aesthetic is glamorous yet eclectic, mixing modern and vintage with a flair. Not afraid to mix patterns and colors, she loves to style with a pop! Her super sweet personality and amazing sense of style drew me to her faster than a bee to honey!
Dee was very happy to share her favorite (and secret) vintage shop with me: 45 Three Modern Vintage. I visited the shop and let me say (OMG) the finds are amazing and the styled vignettes will keep you in the shop for hours. The best part? I got to meet Staci the store owner (she’s fabulous). Staci not only specializes in vintage finds from the 50s to 80s (think Kelly Wearstler), but she offers amazing upholstery services as well. If you have a vintage or just plain ugly piece, Staci will revive it for you.
Now onto some important questions I had for Dee:
What is your best vintage find?
My best vintage find ever was actually the first piece I ever bought and it’s what brought me to Staci’s store (45 Three Modern Vintage) about five years ago. It was this bright pink, somewhat “granny” chair that was sitting on the sidewalk outside her shop… and it just BEGGED me to come in and check “her” out. She was big and bold and a statement maker, and not only did she become a conversation starter… she forged my friendship with Staci and my future with vintage furniture… and that is priceless!
What does the Thrill of the Thrift mean to you?
The “thrill of the thrift” is about the “relationship” you make with that special piece you just can’t stop thinking about. It doesn’t have to be a “designer find” or a even a “steal”… it can be the underdog… chips, scratches and all… that makes it into your home and thrills you more than any other piece you own. I have a few of these beauties… and they make me smile every time I walk past them ;).
I know most of you love vintage as much as I do, so please share your thrift and vintage finds with me using #thrillofthethrift
