The 10 Best Clean Sunscreens

10 best clean sunscreen guide for summer 2019

As you know, my skincare and beauty lineup is about 90% clean. When it comes to sunblock, I only use mineral based sunscreen and have done so for many years. Why? Chemical sunscreens are filled with nasty chemicals like oxybenzone and octinoxate  – many of which are hormone and endocrine disruptors. If they have added fragrance, well that’s another chemical which is associated with allergies, dermatitis, respiratory distress and potential effects on the reproductive system. Simply put, you don’t want or need any of these chemicals on your largest organ – your skin. Which is why I want to share the 10 best clean sunscreens so you can protect your skin this summer. I have used and currently use all of the clean sunscreens below so these are 100% real recommendations.

The 10 Best Clean Sunscreens

My list of non-toxic sunscreens includes ratings from Environmental Working Group (EWG), which is my trusted source to the ingredients in most household and beauty products. All of the products either have a 1 or 2 rating, which is the best you can get.  I use EWG to cross check toxicity of many ingredients as well as to discover new products.

All Good Organic Lipbalm: My lips used to always get sunburned and dry. I love this hydrating lip balm which also protects my lips.

EWG Rating: 1

Beautycounter Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Mist: This is a hydrating, lightweight zinc oxide formula with broad-spectrum water-resistant protection against UVA, UVB, and blue light. Plus since it’s a mist, it’s super easy to get on your skin and just go. I use this for beach days when Harlee is running around and I just need to get some coverage on her!

EWG Rating: 2

Beautycounter Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Stick: This is a super convenient, water-resistant sunscreen stick that I use on my face when lapswimming. It’s not sticky and it blends in great, especially when you need to re-apply at the pool or beach.  I like using it on my nose, neck, and ears.

EWG Rating: 2

COOLA Mineral Sun Silk Creme, SPF 30: This is an oil-free and lightweight crème that offers transparent protection. I love wearing this under makeup for all around protection. It also brightens my skin. This is my go to for daily use. Use code VINTAGESPLENDOR for 20% at COOLA.

EWG Rating: 1

Juice Beauty Tinted Mineral Moisturizer: This protects against damaging UV sun rays without causing breakouts! It’s non-sticky and non-pore clogging, plus it provides the right amount of coverage. This is great for daily wear if you’re looking for a tinted moisturizer with SPF.

EWG Rating: 1

Suntegrity Skincare Natural Mineral Sunscreen For Body: This SPF blocks UVA and UVB rays, and it’s perfect for hikes or days at the pool. It’s also super hydrating and it blends in smoothly.

EWG Rating: 1

Supergoop! Sunnyscreen Stick: This is a new product that we’ve gotten to try recently and we love it. Even though it’s labeled for kids, I’ve used it on my daily swims and I love it. I use this on Harlee’s face and hard to reach places like her neck or near her armpits where she’s ticklish if I use my hands.

EWG Rating: 1

Supergoop! Sunnyscreen Lotion: Another new product that we love for the whole family. Similar to ThinkBaby, it’s a thicker formula but it blends in nicely.

EWG Rating: 1

Supergoop! 100% Mineral Smooth & Poreless Matte Screen:  Supergoop does one thing and that is sun protection and they do such a good job. Although their Unseen Sunscreen is popular, this is my favorite. This is an ultra-light,  non-whitening SPF that soothes skin and creates a blurring matte finish.

EWG Rating: 2

Think Baby Safe Sunscreen: This was and still is our trusted sunblock for Harlee. Although it goes on thick, it protects her baby skin like no other brand.

EWG Rating: 1

If you want to try other other sunscreens,  keep in mind is just because a product says it’s “mineral-based” it doesn’t mean it hasn’t been mixed with chemical sunscreens. You want to ensure the inactive ingredients are also non-toxic, which include: parabens, pthalates, sodium laureth sulfate, and fragrance. I avoid all of the ingredients in all of my beauty and skincare.
