Drop Waist & Flouncy

I Heart Vintage Couture - by Annette Vartanian: Drop Waist & Flouncy

Isn’t this a cute little number, with the drop waist and flouncy skirt? It was a fabulous find at Loehmann’s, after spending a month drooling over it at a much pricier online retailer.  It was the right dress to throw on to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of BF’s friends’ architecture firm.  Usually the attire at these things is architect (boring + black) – of course the BF does not fit into this category.  One of our friends brought up that she would never consider mixing leopard heels with a striped dress, but when I put it on, it looks good.  It made me think about the pieces I mix together. Sometimes print mixing doesn’t work (I think we all have a bad outfit we can think of), but other times it just works.  I tend to think that leopard is the new neutral so I try it with so many other prints and color combos.  I find that the result usually works and is fun without trying too hard. What do you think about mixing it up? What is your go-to neutral?
