Currently Shopping: Vintage Slip Dresses

vintage summer outfits

This may not come as a surprise but my current obsession is shopping for vintage slip dresses. A few weeks ago at the flea market, I was on the hunt for the perfect one to tie-dye when I came across this beauty. It was $6 and silk, so I opted not to experiment with dyes (although it’s still something I want to try). I love the delicate lace straps and detailing and the loose fit make for the perfect summer dress, especially as we’re in the middle of a heat wave. Every time I wear one of my vintage silk dresses, my mom asks me “are you going to wear that nightgown or lingerie in public?” The answer is always, “yes!”. Much like back in the 90s when this style was popular, if you don’t tell someone it’s actually lingerie, they won’t know!

Here are some things to keep in mind when shopping for vintage slip dresses:

  • Avoid polyester or nylon: you’ll just sweat and feel extra warm. Opt for silk or cotton/linen.
  • Look for oversized fits so the dress doesn’t stick to you on extra humid or warm days
  • Opt for midi or mini length dresses if you prefer casual look, or maxi lengths if you plan to dress it up
  • If the slip dress is stained and you feel comfortable with dyes, try dip-dyeing or tie-dyeing to give the dress new life

If you’re also obsessed with vintage slip dresses, I’ve rounded up some great styles and finds that you can shop!
