Ace Hardware has provided free paint samples. I was also compensated for my time and this blog post. All opinions and positions expressed here are my own and do not necessarily reflect those of Ace Hardware.
When it comes to paint, a lot of thought goes into not only selecting the right color, but also in choosing the right brand name. I’m excited to collaborate with Ace Hardware – the authority on color – and to participate in the Ace Paint Studio 31 Days of Color campaign.
I was chosen to reveal a beautiful color called “Sun Sparkle”, which is a soft, yet bright pollen yellow. It’s not too bold, which is a good thing since I used it as an accent color in our guest bedroom. I wanted a bright and cheery yellow that would add some color, without overwhelming the entire space since I already chose to have an eclectic aesthetic with a variety of patterns and hues in the room. The room mixes my favorite new and vintage pieces, plus a touch of “Sun Sparkle”! The end result is a exactly what I wanted: a happy space for guests to enjoy.
1. Clear the room of all furniture or drape furniture that cannot be moved.
2. Carefully tape off the edges of the wall you are preparing to paint pressing the tape down securely.
3. Using a small brush, paint the borders first. Then paint the remainder of the wall using a roller. If two coats are needed, then wait for first coat to completely dry.
Tip: When painting with a roller, paint up and down, side to side, diagonal up and down to the left, and then diagonal up and down to the right. This ensures a smooth coat and usually only requires one coat.
4. Allow paint to completely dry and remove tape.
5. Decorate your room.
