Fall is here and in Los Angeles that means we can finally enjoy our patios! Although I love the heat of summer, I really enjoy entertaining in the fall when we can spend all day outside and then cozy up in the evenings. I change up our decor outside to reflect the change of the season and add in layers, neutral fall tones, and try to create the coziest spot at the house.

3 Ways to Create a Cozy Outdoor Space for Fall

Layer up. I avoid putting an outdoor rug outside during the summer months because even the best rug will deteriorate in the sun. I bring out my rugs, pillows, and throws just for fall and layer them up. Don’t be afraid to layer your rugs and mix prints, patterns, and textures. It’s all about creating a luxe feel, even in the outdoors.

Show off your green thumb. Bring all your green friends outside including succulents and herbs. Fall is a great time to garden in Los Angeles, so now is the time to work that green thumb of yours. If you’re not the gardening type, stick to potted plants which add a similar home vibe outdoors.

Stick to a neutral color palette. Put away the bright yellow pillows or aqua quatrefoil print pillows. Now is the time to embrace warm hues such as copper or rust, blues, and even pinks. This will create a fall aesthetic without being too kitschy with the fall holidays.
