Today’s topic: wearing vintage lingerie during day! Before you clutch your pearls and gasp, think about it for a moment. As the 100 degree temps and blazing sun make outings unbearable, your saving graces are slinky vintage pieces. I know, I know, cotton is the fabric of our lives, but in LA’s heatwave even cotton can feel too heavy. As an alternative, I’ve been stocking up on vintage silk lingerie at the flea market and Etsy to pull together outfits for daytime. Vintage silk tap shorts paired with a silky camisole and flat sandals is what’s missing from that brunch outing and for an ultra sultry look pair a maxi silk slip with heels for date night. I’ve been opting for skirts and camis as I can transition them into the fall with leather or denim jackets and skinny jeans. I can’t wait to pair my blush midi slip with Stan Smiths and vintage Levi’s jacket every. single. day. this fall. To avoid the “I just rolled out of bed and didn’t change out of my neglige” (since only Kate Moss can pull that off), pair with bold jewelry and a bright lip. Trust me, I’ve tried this formula and it works.
Some quick tips! Look for 100% silk pieces, instead of poly blend, to get that silky, cool look. I love lace detailing on skirts, dresses, and shorts but keep coverage in mind; you don’t want to buy a piece that requires layers. If you’re starting out, try simple basics with little detailing (like I’ve styled). But if you’re all over this like Kim K and her Snapchat filters, then go all out on the lace detailing.
