Designing a bedroom should feel like creating your own personal retreat but anyone who has lived through a renovation knows the process comes with equal parts excitement and second-guessing. Do we love this wallpaper, or will we hate it in six months? Is this too bold, or not bold enough? Luckily, working with Erik and Brennan of EK Home made those “Do we love this?” debates easier and the final result is a space that feels like pure maximalist magic.

The Vision: Bold, Moody, and Maximalist
I wanted my studio and our bedroom to feel layered, glamorous, and unapologetically bold – think high drama but still livable. EK Home and I started with a clear direction: moody jewel tones, rich textures, and sculptural accents that would bring depth and personality into the space. For me, maximalism isn’t about clutter; it’s about mixing patterns, color, and texture in a way that feels curated and chic.

Erik and BrennanWe built the design around a statement wall treatment, anchoring the room with dark green croc embossed wallpaper that instantly set the tone. The lacquered vanity table is a showstopper! Its glossy finish reflects light beautifully, adding an instant touch of glamour to the room. Paired with the reupholstered vanity chair in a rich, textured fabric, it creates a chic and functional corner for me. Across the room, the seating area steals the spotlight with two vintage chairs, transformed through bold, geometric upholstery that feels both modern and timeless. Anchored by a sleek coffee table, this space is our new favorite place to enjoy coffee in the morning and read a book in the evening! It perfectly balances comfort with high design. Every time I walk into our bedroom, I think: Yes, this is what a bedroom should feel like!

The Finished Space
The final result is everything I hoped for: bold, moody, and maximalist but still comfortable and practical for everyday life. It feels like walking into a boutique hotel suite designed just for us. Every time I step into the room, I get that little thrill of this is ours!
Designing with a partner like EK Home turned what could have been a stressful process into an inspiring one. Erik and Brennan understood my maximalist sensibility and helped refine it into a polished, cohesive vision that feels both editorial and deeply personal.
And because I know you’re going to ask, I’ve rounded up the key pieces and sources we used so you can shop (or at least daydream) the look for your own home.
