Mad About Mod

I Heart Vintage Couture: Mad About Mod

A lot of people tell me that vintage shopping is an expensive habit.  Like anything, vintage shopping can get expensive if you have no sense of control, but it is the least amount of money you will spend on great quality and unique items for your closet.  Vintage shopping is about buying statement and classic pieces that you love and want to wear.  Have you seen the Mad Men for Banana Republic Collection yet? It’s a beautiful collection with lots of green  (pantone color of the year!) designed by the fabulous Janie Bryant. Although the silhouettes and colors are perfectly mod, the collection is an attempt to bring vintage style clothing to the masses, which is fabulous and not-so-fabulous. All of us want to look unique and exude our own sense of style, and I love that vintage items allow me to do that, but we also don’t want to look like we stepped out from another decade.  That’s why it’s important to invest in pieces, knowing you can wear them over the years.  When flipping through the collection lookbook, my eye immediately caught the bright hues and fun pattern of the Peggy dress.  Of course it’s a gorgeous dress, but what caught my attention was that I picked up a similar vintage dress from Shareen on a shopping date with some friends – remember this post?  I loved the print and the colors of the dress and I knew it was a dress that I could wear for years to come.  As much as I love the on-trend pieces, I love the uniqueness that only vintage items can add to a wardrobe and at a quarter of the price (another perk of buying vintage).

I completely agree! Vintage clothing (well, the majority of it) lasts for a reason. Because it was well made to begin with! And investing in a few of the more expensive pieces here and there is perfectly fine. 🙂 I love that dress. The colors are so vibrant and I love the purse you styled with it! <3toni

I love vintage clothing but I have no idea how to buy it, especially because I have some restrictions on what I can wear. My weakness is dresses but often, I can't wear them because of a religious restriction that I have to cover my legs (down to just above the ankles) and arms. The arms part isn't hard, I can just add a cardigan. But the legs part is more difficult. Some dresses (vintage or otherwise) work with pants/jeans underneath but many don't. It's frustrating.

The dress from the Mad Men collection has NOTHING on the dress from Shareen!!! You look amazing. The details alone are worth the trip to a vintage store. They just do not make things like they used to.
