Kitchen Inspiration

mid century modern kitchen

A season of change.

I can’t believe that it has been a year since we moved in our home.  After doing some basic updates last year and a wedding (no biggie), Alan and I are moving forward with updating our kitchen! We started checking out materials last weekend and have been honing down on the vision for our kitchen.  As you recall, our kitchen needs some major loving although she does have some one upside: the walnut cabinets were custom made for the house and although have been beaten over the years, have years of beauty ahead.  We’re saying adios to the pink tile and linoleum flooring, electric stovetop, and grungy door and introducing a more minimalistic and streamlined color palette like the inspirations below.  We’re thinking of refinishing the walnut cabinets with a warm brown hue, terrazzo-style flooring,  and white countertops. Plus, we’ll be adding a dishwasher and gas range.  We definitely want to keep the mid century modern aesthetic, yet make it a modern, functional kitchen.

I’m of course thrilled about designing the kitchen and looking at hundreds of materials, but I’m not quite ready for the construction! Have you updated or remodeled a kitchen? Do you have any tips or recommendations?
