In a world where fast fashion and interiors exist, it can be quite the challenge to deliver unique spaces and items for consumer. Long gone are days that a client would wait for a designer to present a portfolio of options. Instead, clients today create their own mood boards and source furnishings and materials with the help websites like 1st Dibs. Homepolish sees this as an opportunity to collaborate and design spaces driven by the clients style. Which means, that vintage apothecary table you picked out from the flea market has a place with the new pieces sourced by your designer. The end result is a balanced space and a portfolio that is full of eye candy – lots of it.
With its new approach to interior design, Homepolish has made premium design services available to the masses. With 200 designers in 10 cities, Homepolish matches clients with a designer based on your style and interest in the process. There is no commission or traditional markups on furnishings; jobs are charged on a flat hourly rate. If you’re inclined to do a project in phases, then you pay as you go without ever feeling like your project is only partially complete.
I had the opportunity to meet Noa Santos, founder of Homepolish, while in New York last month. After spending lots of time talking about vintage furniture – I can’t help myself – and the insane cold temps, I asked him to share his three tips for successful interior design:
1. Sit down and think! Think about how you want to live in a space not what your space was designed for per se.
2. Buy what you need to be comfortable. Be cognizant that style is always evolving, but invest in pieces that will make you comfortable to be home.
3. Experiment when renting. Even if you’re a renter, try out design trends and experiment with your taste in interiors. That way when you buy, you’ll buy smarter designs.
Don’t you worry, I also got him to spill the beans on his favorite vintage shop in New York… Furnish Green
