I love a good read from The Cut, but I have to admit this recent article throwing shade at the cape got me a little angry. I have to admit, it had me chuckling a couple of times since capes can make shoulder bag situations weird, but like a lot of other fashion staples it takes some breaking in and getting used to. I love capes (as seen here and here) because they don’t feel restrictive like normal coats (anything too tight makes me feel claustrophobic), plus you can layering up under the cape without feeling like the Michelin Man. The trick to mastering the cape is finding one that fits right! This may seem like a no-brainer but make sure the length, width, and arm holes are comfortable before committing to purchase. For my frame, vintage capes fit perfect and don’t require any alterations – I also love that vintage pieces are unique pieces so I won’t run into any twins as I’m out and about!
