outfits to wear at the lake

One of my favorite trips each year is visiting Alan’s hometown, Kalamazoo.  Although it’s beautiful in the winter and delivers a white Christmas for this LA native, a midwest summer can’t be beat. We spend most of the time with family and lounging around, but I always squeeze in time at the lake.  Alan likes to give me tours of his old stomping grounds and we visit Water Street Coffee Joint and Bell’s Beer, both in Kalamazoo – I guess these are the two places that got him through the dark days of a midwest winter!  I also like to sing “I’ve got a guy from Kalamazoo” during our entire trip.  It’s a catchy tune, applies to my life, and it was our wedding song. What can I say, I have this thing for cheese!

We also make a point (fine I demand it!) to visit South Haven and Saugatuck.  South Haven is a small beach town with beautiful beautiful beaches and colorful shops.  Saugatuck is a cute arts town on the river; it’s busier than South Haven and you can climb up Mt. Baldhead over the sand dunes to get to Opal Beach, which is one of the most beautiful beaches in the US!  Although the weather was a bit gloomy and rainy, we were lucky to have a couple of sunny days while on the lake.  On our way out to Saugatuck, we stopped for some blueberry picking (yup, you can do that) and brought home about 10 lbs of blueberries!
