1. Barnsdall Park Wine Tasting
This summer-time favorite started years ago through a small group of friends and has since turned into a must-have for hipster Angelenos. If you’re into wine, picnicks, food trucks, and gorgeous views, this is the thing to try. Plus, if you’re into architecture you can get a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House. Tickets are $25. Get more information here.
2. Jubilee Festival
Silverlake Jubilee Festival is held in the epicenter of hipsterville at Sunset Junction. The 2-day festival features 6 stages, food vendors and curbside shopping. Headliners for this year’s event include Kinky, Aloe Blacc, Autolux and many more. Tickets start at $20. Get more information here.
3. Jazz Reggae Festival
For 25 years, the Jazz Reggae Festival has been providing a mash-up of hip-hop, reggae and jazz in LA. Headliners for this year’s 2-day festival include Bobby Womack and The Roots. Reggae Day will be headlined by Collie Buddz, Shaggy, and Don Carlos. Tickets start at $29. Get more information here.
4. Santa Monica Beach & Pier
Santa Monica Beach & Pier provides a full-day of activities. From sunning at the beach, to recreational activities on the pier and shopping and dining at 3rd Street Promenade and Santa Monica Place, you can spend the whole day lazing away in SaMo. Free beach access, parking approx. $5. Get more information here, here, and here.
5. Griffith Observatory
Hands down one of the greatest spots in LA and yet I know life-long Angelenos that still haven’t been to Griffith Observatory. Even if you just visit and walk around the building and grounds, you will enjoy beautiful 360 degree views of beautiful LA! Also, you may want to see the short show in the planetarium, which is very cool (even for you non-nerds). Admission is free. More information here.
Oh, how I miss the Santa Monica Pier! I just loove the extended stroll all the way down to Venice Beach. Okay, it's more than a stroll, we actually went by bike as finding parking in Venice Beach is like hunting for the latest pair of Alexander Wang heels: the size you need is always sold out!
